How to Accessorise Your 2020 Summer

Bodywear Lab’s tips to style-up your summer with on-trend accessories

Summer: Blue skies, Sunshine, Beaches. When those pictures come to mind it is unlikely it is British scenery you envisioned as the backdrop. However, whilst Covid-19 might be limiting our travel plans, it is not limiting the fashion scene. Those heading to beaches (or their back gardens) and wanting to keep your summer swimsuit on, you can style an easy and elegant look. The culprit to maintaining stylishness? Good accessories. Here are some of the on-trend accessories you should use to spice up your corona-chic looks. Starting with, of course, your feet.

‘Barely There’ mules

Whether you prefer heels or flats; strappy, square-off, open toe mules are your go to this summer. Taking their inspiration from 70s looks, this shoe is both versatile as a daytime or evening item and the right pair can glam-up your summer swimsuit look or match a more elegant evening outfit. Rope sandals, or studded sandals are alternative ways you can change up this trend in a more unique way.

For example: this red swimsuit from Broochini would work perfectly with BY FAR’s Tanya mules.

The oversized shirt Duster

As fashion is reflecting on vintage styles, the swimsuit duster is back. But this time it is common to incorporate elegant linen oversized shirts to achieve this. An alternative for a beach jacket, it is an ultimate comfort and classy combination.

Layer up your swimsuit with the gorgeous LOEWE x Paula’s Ibiza shirt.

Bucket Bags and Bucket Hats

The oversized tote. Tote bags of all kinds, including ‘basket’ and leather are sizing up. Not only can you bring all your essentials to summer picnics but look great while you do it!

For our pick we matched our broochini one-piece with this picnic tote from Prada.

Not into tote bags? Oversized, soft clutches are another option. Traditionally an evening accessory, clutch bags have come back for daytime use and have followed totes in maxing on size and style as a result.

But the size does not stop at bags. Hats. Those of us living the true English summer (i.e. rain) the bucket hat not only improves our summer looks but protect us from the wet. For those lucky enough to enjoy heat, wide and full brimmed headgear will make you on trend whilst keeping you cool. It is a win win.

For example this full brimmed number from Selfridges

Back in Time Sunglasses

Despite Britain’s limited sunshine, sunglasses are a must accessory for summer. Many fashion-conscious stars are taking inspiration from 90s sunglasses, including the classic cat-eye, but colourful frames are a common theme. Match these with your swimsuit for an easy stylish look.

For example, the vibrant red of the Broochini swimsuit works perfectly with the red frames of these Prada Sunglasses.

Never too much chunky gold

This season it is all about the chunky gold chains and bold colours. Jewellery detail makes a simple look and Bodywear Lab would suggest, right now, you can never have too much bling. Floral brooches and statement earrings are another fashionable option.

Chunky Gold Choker to compliment outfit

Hope that inspires your next summer looks! Here at Bodywear Lab we would also always look for sustainable or economically conscious brands that facilitate our styles, if purchasing new items. But with a lot of these recommendations there is a high possibility you might have the perfect thing hiding in the back of your wardrobe!
